BIG V YL ROUND 8 WRAP UP
Blues Youth League teams both got the wins first the weekend. See Big V Basketball’s Recaps below.
Youth League Men – Pakenham 69 def by Frankston 81
Heading into this match, 6th v 4th, we knew it was going to be a tough match. But we think it is fair to say that we were a little bit surprised to see this result. The Warriors were in great form and we saw them, at the very least, getting a lot closer than they actually did. But great win from the Blues who now sit within the top 4. It was a fairly even start by both sides, but the Blues took the reigns in the 2nd. The 11 point lead they held at half time kept them in good stead for the remainder of the match, considering the Warriors came out to win the 3rd. The Blues were able to come out in the 4thand apply the finishing touches to their win.
Youth League Women – Mornington 41 defeated by Frankston 77
It was a big outing for the Blues when they travelled to Mornington, taking all the points with a big win over the Breakers. Annabel Fitter had a huge game with 19 points, 17 rebounds and five steals coming off the bench for just under 27 minutes. The Blues forced Mornington to shoot just 18%FG from the floor, which allowed them to grab a whopping 73 rebounds (with 30 of them coming off the offensive glass). Frankston were punishing inside, scoring 46 of their 77 points inside the paint, many of which came from Fitter and Annaliese Rogers (12 points, 8 rebounds). Chloe McCulley finished with 11 points for the hosts.
