Ryan Broekhoff scores his first NBA points in record time
Ryan Broekhoff had waited years for the opportunity to play in the NBA, but after signing with the Dallas Mavericks in the off-season, he wasted no time in making his NBA debut in Dallas’ season-opener against Phoenix.
With just 2:52 remaining in the first quarter and with the Mavericks trailing the Suns by 7, Broekhoff was injected into the game to replace Dennis Smith Jr. Finally, after going undrafted in 2013, and spending 5 years shooting the lights out in Europe, the former Valparaiso and Lokomotiv Kuban (Russia) star officially became Australia’s 20th NBA player.

Broekhoff nudged out David Andersen – also a former Frankston junior – who had previously achieved the feat of scoring in just his first 1:04 on court, an achievement that also occurred in his first game for the Houston in 2009 against Portland. In that game, Andersen would go on to score 11 points with 5 rebounds in 19 minutes in an impressive display.
