Smith set to join Blues
Frankston Blues Senior Women continue their signing announcements with 23 year old import guard JoAnna Smith.
“It is extremely exciting to reunite a former Buffalo teammate of Steph Reid and Courtney Wilkins to Frankston.
JoAnna is a sharp shooter our program is looking for, she fits our style of play extremely well with her athleticism and willingness to shoot.” said Head Coach Jess May
Smith graduated in 2017 season averaging an impressive 17.2 ppg, 4.1 rpg, 1 apg.
In the same year, Smith and Reid shared success together receiving All-Mac Honours, being selected for Second Team All-MAC, and All-MAC Defensive Team respectively.
Steph Reid couldn’t be happier with the signing.
“I can’t wait to play with Jo again! She is a high caliber player who can shoot from anywhere within the half court. She will stretch the floor a lot for us but more importantly she is athletic and a great defender.
She knows how to play at a high level as she was part of our team that went to the NCAA tournament for the first time in school history and led us in scoring.
She’s a great player and an even better person and I can’t wait to have her around and play alongside her again”
Once graduated, Smith signed with Uniao Sportiva in Portuguese Liga Feminina. In 10 games she averaged 13.7ppg, 5.0rpg, 2.0apg and 1.8spg. She helped lead Uniao Sportiva to a perfect record before deciding to sign with the Canik Belediyespor Samsun club in Turkey. Canik Belediyespor Samsunc compete in the top women’s professional league in Turkey, the KBSL.
Frankston Blues Chairman Chris Beattie was excited with the signing.
“JoAnna is an exciting addition to Jess’s young roster. She was a lethal scorer in college and we are sure we will see the same from her here with the Blues.
The Frankston basketball community will also see JoAnna in our Sporting Schools Program and after school programs through Regional Academy”
Stay tuned for further player announcements and team news over coming weeks.
