National Junior Classic 2019 – Day 3 Recap
Monday saw the third and final day of the National Junior Classic as our Under 12 Girls played for a gold medal and our Under 14 Girls played for a fifth placing
The Under 12 Girls took on Bulleen Boomers as first game of the day.
The scoring started slow, with the Blues not scoring their first field goal until 3 minutes in, but the they ended this first quarter up 10-7.
The Blues continued to score, getting up by as much as 5 midway in the second, until a timeout from the Boomers, led to the Blues down 18-20 at half time
After the break the Boomers continued to score, while the Blues struggled.
The game finished 28-43 Boomers way and the Blues receiving a Silver Medal, second best in the country.
Leading the Blues was Waihanea Makiri coming away with 8 points, while Marion Hakaraia-Graham and Maddison Carr each had 7 points.
Playing for fifth place the Under 14 Girls came away with a 2 point win over Nunawading Spectres (61-59).
The Blues started slow, down by as much at 9 in the third but pushed for a 17-7 run seeing them take the lead and ended up winning after 3 overtimes!!!
Bonnie Deas continued her weekend of scoring with a team high 18 points including an amazing buzzer beater. Elli Symmonds finished with 10 points.
Both teams will now redirect their attention to the VJBL Victorian Championship re-starting Friday 14th June.
