BV: Victorian Under-14 Club Championships teams announced
Basketball Victoria have officially announced Victorian teams for Under-14 Club Championships. See statement below:
ELEVEN Victorian teams have earned a place in the upcoming Australian Under-14 Club Championships.
Following the first few months of Melbourne United Victorian Junior Basketball League (MUVJBL) action, the top sides across the Ashe and Watson conferences of the Victorian Championship have booked their tickets to the championships, held this year in Ballarat.
With five spots for the girls and six spots for the boys booked for 2019, the top two sides from each conference as well as the Country Championships winner in boys and girls will represent the state at the titles.
Melbourne, Hawthorn, Sale, Frankston and Ballarat have made the grade in the under-14 girls while Hawthorn, McKinnon, Kilsyth, Geelong, Dandenong and Ballarat will represent Victoria in the boys’ competition.
Sale girls and Geelong boys earned their places after winning their Country Championships tournaments earlier this year.
As the host association, Ballarat will have teams battle it out for the title in both the boys’ and girls’ competitions.
Dandenong under-14 boys wrapped up their spot in style on Sunday afternoon, clinching a hard-fought victory over Nunawading to earn the final Victorian place in the championships.
Eltham won the Under-14 Boys Club Championships in 2018, with a number of other associations medaling at the event, highlighting the strength of Victorian basketball throughout the MUVJBL and across all associations.
The teams will play for the Ken Watson Trophy (boys) and Michele Timms Trophy (girls) across the week-long competition at the newly constructed Ballarat Sports and Event Centre from 30 September – 5 October.
