In what would have to be a near record attendance, Frankston Basketball Stadium was buzzing this weekend past.

Running Saturday and Sunday, and in partnership with other local basketball associations, Frankston Basketball hosted the sixth annual Bayside Junior Domestic Tournament. The tournament saw 122 teams participate across 22 divisions.

Frankston Basketball Stadium also played host the first ever NBL1 Double-Home Double-Header, with the Frankston Blues taking on Melbourne Tigers Saturday night and Southern Sabres Sunday afternoon.

Saturday night drew in a large crowd of proud Blues fans who witnessed two brilliant games. The ‘Powerade’ Blues Women were with out Stephanie Reid and Taylor Lee, yet still managed a comfortable win over the Tigers (75-69). The ‘Frankston RSL’ Blues Men claimed a 1 point victory over the Melbourne Tiger, thanks to an amazing buzzer beater, by import guard Damon Bozeman (99-98).

Sunday afternoon featured a sell-out crowd as the Blues took on Bayside rivals, Southern Sabres. The ‘Powerade’ Blues Women lead until the finals minutes as they were overcome by the Sabres (93-97). The ‘Frankston RSL’ Blues Men had a dominant win over the Sabres (119-92) keeping Melbourne United starting forward David Barlow to just 13 points.

FDBA Board of Management hosted a number of special guests Sunday, including Frankston City Council Mayor Michael O’Reilly, Member of Parliament Peta Murphy and Basketball Victoria’s President Mike Bainbridge and CEO Nick Honey (pictured in header) to discuss future plans.
